Spatter: Picture Trivia

For your edification and enjoyment (?) here's a little background behind some of my pics.
sp-beat.jpg ... 25373 bytes ... 11-28-96
A pencil sketch. I didn't have a decent picture of a string bass to use as reference, so I did as best I could with the fragmentary photographs on my Soul Coughing CD's.
sp-dub.gif ... 32054 bytes ... 09-18-96
Done in pencil and scanned in 2 colours. I did the background in DeluxePaint (and had way too much fun at it).
sp-grey.gif ... 16084 bytes ... 09-20-96
I went to a (non-furry) Halowe'en party dressed as one of these critters, stayed completely silent and passed little notes around with cryptic messages like"MISS NEVADA HAS BEEN LYING TO US" and "DO NOT TRUST THE PERSON ON YOUR LEFT". The picture was partly inspired by a line from a Frank Black song - "Are they grey or is it my own nation?" (from "Men In Black").
sp-grrrl.gif ... 28156 bytes ... 12-10-96
Stayed up all night drawing and listening to Fugazi and Venus Cures All (a good 'n' loud 'n' interesting Toronto band - this wolf could easily be singing one of their songs).
sp-i02.gif ... 56068 bytes ... 10-30-96
A popular one, this. I'd been reading too much of the Fortean Times (imagine a cross between "News Of The Weird", Discover magazine and a UFO/paranoia zine) when I drew it. The sequel to this one is in the works.
sp-lhooq.gif ... 11139 bytes ... 04-26-96
In 1920, Dadaist Marcel Duchamp put up a reproduction of the Mona Lisa in a gallery with a penciled-in moustache and the legend "LHOOQ" (a French rebus: 'elle a chaud au queue' or 'she is hot in the tail'). I was in a silly mood and took the idiom literally. The third piece of explicitly furry art I ever did.
sp-piano.gif ... 7857 bytes ... 10-25-95
The first piece of explicitly furry art I ever did, and possibly the best. Originally a tiny (maybe 1 1/2") doodle; I redrew it, traced it onto a plastic bag, stuck it to my screen and traced it into my antique copy of DeluxePaint. Took forever, but it was worth it, I think.
sp-rpd1.gif ... 29728 bytes ... 11-29-96
"How Rapid is Rapid?" comes from an Art Of Noise song.
sp-self.gif ... 18463 bytes ... 01-09-97
I seem to have drawn my RL eyes into this pic. The shirt is real - it says "King Cobb Steelie" (a marvellous funky punky ambient dubby band from just up the highway).
sp-turtl.jpg ... 62478 bytes ... 12-09-96
I was brainstorming poster ideas for a play called "Voice Of The Turtle" during a production meeting. I had no idea what the play was about at the time (it isn't about animals, as it turns out) and a crabby turtle pretty much fell out of my pencil onto the page. It didn't take long before there was an entire monologue to go with it.
